Unlike the Order, they have nowhere near as much systematic stupidity and bigotry. It helps that any such hot water was either the product of chance or self-inflicted (until Ruin, anyway), thus there is no need to rage against the heavens for the right to self-determination and to grow as a species.Īs a result, Starbound humanity has their shit together, has spread to the stars, and has Sufficiently Advanced enough to at least meaningfully fight against most of the villains out there. They had to rely on themselves, and that spurred on innovation and improvement, and science flourished. On the other hand, Starbound humanity had no such divine lifeline to bail them out of any hot water they found themselves falling into. Only this time the Chief God won't be able to bail them out. Why should they be heretical and doubt the Chief God's wisdom? Surely, sooner or later, they will be delivered from their trials. After all, it's happened again and again, and humanity has always been saved at the last moment.

Moreover, the whole cyclical plan of using monsters to reduce humanity to a manageable (for the god) state again and again is likely why so few people seem to be aware of the full enormity of the looming extinction for humanity. It helped ensure compliance with the Chief God, but now that the head god is down for the count and the other gods are on the other side, it means that the Order's blind trust in the higher powers constantly is a fatal mistake. After all, it's not like one of the Demon Lords could subvert the other gods so that there's no longer anything to balance off the Order's stupidity, right?Įdit: This might also be why gods like Eros are still honored in Order territory despite them now actively helping Mamono the fact that all the major victories were the work of the gods and their chosen heroes constantly reinforced in society that there is no point in making any innovative changes or individuals trying their own thing, as the gods will always be there to save everyone. And since the Chief God and its pantheon such as Ares and Poseidon are there to offer the proper guidance and support when necessary, it's not like the Chief God has to worry about the cultural idiocy getting the humans entirely wiped out every time humans are close enough to the point of extinction, literal deus ex machina steps in to lead some heroes to victory.
After all, the monsters were created to keep the human population in check, and it wouldn't work at all if the human leaders were smart enough to either negotiate with the monsters or wipe them out entirely. I think that might have been the intent of the Chief God.
